Unlikely inspiration

When you hear the words Doctor Who your mind doesn't exactly scream stylish or fashionable. Except that lately so much style inspiration has come from there, even if it is a bit indirect.

- Amy Pond (or the actress who plays her, Karen Gillan) and her awesome nail polish choices. I actually have some major nail jealousy over he nice long nails as well. I love her bold polish choices whether on the show or in real life.

- Christopher and his Kind is a BBC movie being filmed now starring the Doctor himself, Matt Smith. The film is about the life of Christopher Isherwood. That in itself is awesome because the world needs more Matt Smith but that isn't what has me excited over the style. It's these set pics and what his co star Imogen Poots is wearing.

- To bring this a little more full circle, Imogen also had a role in Cracks. A great film I recently watched set in 1930's england at an all girl's boarding school. It's stars Eva Green and her wardrobe in the film is TO DIE FOR. It is some of my fall inspiration. How does this relate to Doctor Who? Eva Green is also in a film with Matt Smith called Womb. BAM! It's a small world, right?

Eva Green is fashionable and pretty crazy in Cracks

Okay so I may have stretched it a little far but still, it all started a bowtie wearing, time traveling alien called the Doctor.

I got style and I got...

So I'm sure you've all seen Beyonce's new video "Why don't you love me?". I LOVE the look of it. It's completely retro with these perfect modernizations where they are needed.

It's all gaudy gold jewelry and ultra dramatic cat eyes. It seems that Beyonce and I may be a little in sync lately since I FINALLY caved and bough Chanel's "Nouvelle Vague" nail polish after lusting for months and months. It is apparently the exact shade she wears in the video.

Then yesterday I caved in again at the mall and got Mac's Viva Glam/Lady Gaga lipstick which is a perfect ultra pale but ultra pink lipstick (which I am very eager to really try) and looks like it would be a perfect shade for this video. On top of the amazing accessories and make-up you have ultra voluminous hair and big old curls. I am SOLD.

Maybe because deep down I kind of wish I could be Bettie Page style pin-up for a day or maybe it's an early dose of excitement for season four of Mad Men but I can't get enough of this video.

The video is chock full of 50's/60's pin-up style looks so give it a watch if you like that style. For even more on the clothes in the video check out the post from my friend over at The Party Novel.

I'm loving it

Honestly, the last few years I haven't seen may models who have stuck out. Stam, Coco and Lily went from the new girls to veterens without many big names or memorable faces coming through. So I'm so so so glad that some of the new girls have a bit more character then the last few years.

One of my new favorites who has been everywhere this season is Bregje Heinen. She is 17, Dutch and stunning. While she does have a tendency to look almost exactly like Lily Donaldson at some angles she does seem pretty unique.

She can be sweet and ethereal or be edgy. I will be keeping my eye on her.

These are just ghosts that broke my heart...

The tragic death of Lee McQueen has definitely put a major damper on this season's fashion weeks all over the globe so I can't say I'm surprised that one of the stand out collections so far has an eerie vibe to it.

Even in a fog of sadness over the loss of Lee, I was quite taken with Rodarte's collection. The girls looked ghostly but sweet. The intricate layers and details reminds us there are still designers out there who are just beginning to tap into their creativity.

This is one label I am looking to for my dose of unique, quirky ad creative each season. Three cheers for Rodarte and LONG LIVE MCQUEEN!

Who said winter blues were a bad thing?

I know, I know...long time no post but life, and busy and all that. You know how it is but I think it's time to get back in the swing of things.

Pre-Fall 2010 is rolling out and some of it is hot! Like this lovely ensemble from Versace.

I just love the blue and the slick leggings against the fur vest. And continuing on with beautiful blues this dress from Carolina Herrera is total ice princess(in a good way).

and as some of you know I am not a fan of Karl Lagerfeld at all but some of the looks at Chanel were gorgeous with their detail.

Can't wait to see more from the designers as more collections roll out.

Oh DREARY...

I am IN LOVE with this spread in the new US edition of Harper's Bazaar. It actually has little to do with the Tim Burton cameo or the shout out to Edward Scissorhands. It's because it is perfectly macabre from the enormous skeleton looming above to the cloudy sky that seems ominous. I adore these spreads and they seem to stick with me longer than they ones where the girls are just pretty.
